Bay Lane at the Cheviots Way and Windrush Close intersection – Before and after action

This section (at what3words wacky.losses.host) has a series of potholes that fill with mud. The sides of the bridle path are detritus, which falls onto the path & impedes access at the puddle/mud filled pot hole. Big thank you to HCC Highways and CRoW for help in getting cleared for the return to school.

Per below, the pothole fills with mud/water and ideally needs repair. The sides of the bridle path need clearing back, about a metre or regularly, to allow full access. Friends of Great Ashby (FoGA) will attend to the sides in December, when all the leaves have fallen, under the guidance of Countryside Rights of Way. The fault has been reported and the HCC reference number is: 401002339639

Update 2.11.2021 understandably HCC have advised that this does not form part of the urgent works but will be attended to in due course. The plan is to now lobby our District Councillors, Terry Tyler & George Davies, as well as Herts County Councillor, Steve Jarvis, and the Great Ashby Community Council, possibly with a view to crowd fund and improve the wellbeing of the community.

It is hoped the Highways & Grounds Committee of the Great Ashby Community Council (GACC) will look at this in line with their Terms of Reference will liaise with HCC, who may not consider this a priority project. In liaison with our County Councillor and with the Full Council consider making a grant to FoGA under the GACC Grant Policy Ideally the GACC could project manage themselves.

Motion

 Great Ashby Community Council (GACC):

Will address potholes at the intersection of Bay Lane with entrances into Windrush Close and Cheviot Way by liaising with HCC Highways and the County Councillor to obtain funding to fix the fault.

Will obtain a costing for the works which might be 30m by 3m

Will consider either providing a grant to Friends of Great Ashby or project managing themselves to have the works completed if HCC cannot make the work a priority.

Residents could contact the Chair of the GACC Highways & Grounds Committee, Cllr Ian Brown on ian.brown@greatashbycouncil.org.uk or the Clerk on clerk@greatashbycouncil.org.uk to support the proposal(s).
